Concrete Polishing is not a method for protecting a concrete floor - in as much as a process for turning a concrete floor into a highly abrasion resistant, incredibly dense, smooth and visually appealing surface. Concrete Polishing eliminates the need for epoxy or thin film coatings, guaranteeing a surface that can withstand even the toughest traffic.
When polishing concrete a range of outcomes can be achieved, depending on the purpose for the floor, all with the inherent benefits of strength, abrasion resistance, non-dusting, spill resistance that make polishing concrete the new choice for concrete flooring.
Concrete floor polishing finishes can be categorized as:
•Concrete restoration low ,semi, high-gloss
• Industrial polishing floors finish ideally for use in a factory or industrial non-decorative situations
• Semi gloss polishing floors finish where a mirror-like finish is not required
• High-gloss polishing floors finish producing an almost mirror-like floor
How Does concrete polishing work ?
Each of these alternatives can be created with a revealed aggregate or non-exposed aggregate finish. at Outstanding Floors inc The polishing concrete process moves through a succession of steps of diamond grinding, using progressively finer grit sizes, application of a liquid densifier and optional penetrating sealer with final polishing and buff.
the results are a smooth, glossy, durable and attractive floor. With the durability and strength of a concrete polishing floor and incomparable advantages in abrasion resistance and non marking properties.
This surface can withstand even the toughest traffic and add years to the expected life of the Polished concrete floor and is exceptionally resistant to: Wear, dusting, marking, such as forklift tires, water, abrasion and heat. Polished concrete floors can be used in new or old construction for manufacturing plants, warehouses, automotive factories and showrooms, retail, residential, commercial , grocery store and supermarkets and industrial environments, grocery flooring
How is it done: see our Concrete polishing video
The process starts with the removal of the old Concrete with coarse diamonds bonded in metal.
Since some of the original concrete seal was removed, reapply a densifying concrete seal to stop dust and hardening the floor for the polishing steps.
The Concrete floor is diamond grind using ever finer grits, as you would use to sand wood, until the desired shine is achieved.
Finally, apply the Finishing Coat (densifier protector seal) after the diamond polishing has been completed. It is applied to the polished concrete and then buffed or burnished into the concrete surface to improve surface sheen and water resistance.
Polished Concrete by Outstanding floors is not Slippery
Because of polished concrete’s unique shine and slick appearance, many people question if it is a slippery surface. A clean and dry concrete is generally no more slippery than plain concrete surfaces. In fact, polished concrete tends to be less slippery than waxed linoleum or polished marble.
There are anti-slip conditioners that can be applied to a polished concrete floor for extra protection against accidents. The special additives in these products are designed to improve traction and make wet surfaces safer. They do not require any additional cleaning needs than the usual damp mopping during routine cleaning. However, they must be reapplied periodically.
